Sustainable Building

Sustainable Homes

We invite you to join us on our journey to lower our carbon footprint

Ponder Construction is now offering sustainable and eco-friendly buildings designed by our architects and engineers who specialise in creating commercial buildings. Our project team of craftsmen are specifically trained to incorporate unique building systems to meet the highest quality and environmental standards. At Ponder Construction we specialise in new build and turnkey projects including self-build projects to meet any specific criteria. Our aim is to ensure each development exceeds our clients’ expectations.

As one of the leading eco-friendly commercial builders in Essex, we offer all types of energy-efficient solutions with a whole range of optimised energy possibilities with cutting-edge technology. Whether photovoltaic, heat pumps, geothermal to hydro systems, battery storage solutions with integrated solar thermal systems – our options are as diverse as our projects and clients.

ground source heat pumps

Geothermal heating also known as GSHP (ground source heat pumps) refer to a system that uses the ground as a heat source, providing a building with 100% of its heating and hot water all year round.

Geothermal heat pump technologies can be utilised to meet both heating and cooling needs in new build construction and existing businesses. GSHP uses less electricity than conventional heating systems and unlike air-source heat pumps they are not dependent on the temperature of the outside air.

Geothermal systems are generally more expensive to install than air-source systems of the same size but these benefit from additional cost saving, less energy usage and ultimately lower your CO₂ emissions.

Air source heat pumps

Air source heat pumps known as ASHP are a great system to convert energy from outside into internal heating, cooling and hot water. All our systems are designed and installed to work precisely with our changing climate and to surpass dated gas, oil and electrical systems.

An ASHP is a very effective way of heating your premises, saving money on your heating bills and lower carbon emissions. When combined with other numerous renewable options our energy efficient technologies will deliver a sustainable system excelling traditional technologies.

Photovoltaic system

Photovoltaic systems (PV systems) also known as solar panels, are a renewable energy technology which converts the energy from the sun into electricity using photovoltaics. Our PV Systems provide a reliable green energy solution and have established themselves as a suitable solution for electricity generation.

From standard roof panels to architecturally designed systems, the introduction of PV will form part of the building to suit all your needs financially and visually.

Wind turbines

Our wind turbines are used for microgeneration of electricity, producing off grid energy from the wind. Our systems are an ideal solution for businesses and agricultural use and will reduce your energy costs and help the environment.

Opposed to large commercial wind turbines found in wind farms our small turbines use a passive yaw system on the tail fin to point the blades into the wind for maximum efficiency. A good situated wind turbine is a very effective generator of electricity and renewable power and will make large savings on your energy bills when incorporated with the Feed-in-Tariff.

Tesla Power Wall

Powerwall is a battery storage system which automatically becomes your energy source and reduces your reliance on the grid. If there is a sudden power cut, Powerwall keeps your business running on previously stored electricity and when paired with solar panels this will keep computers and low energy appliances running for days.

Other Tesla products can be incorporated to save money and reduce your carbon footprint and thus saving your business further money.

Solar Thermal Heating

Our solar thermal heating systems can generate a substantial proportion of your hot water requirements and working in combination with other conventional heating systems and renewable technologies. Adding solar thermal heating will help you become more actively sustainable, reduce your rising energy costs and ultimately reducing CO₂ emissions.

If you are a business owner or considering a new build property, solar thermal heating is an ideal solution to incorporate within your building.

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)

MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) is the solution to your ventilation needs within energy efficient buildings, whilst retaining most of the energy used in heating the building.

A heat recovery ventilation system installed correctly will be practically unnoticeable. The system will remove polluted air sources, return a continuous supply of fresh filtered air with increased air quality and because the fresh air is pre-warmed, heat loss from ventilation is avoided and less money is spent on heating your property.

Insulated concrete formwork

ICF (Insulated concrete form) is a system of formwork using interlocking modular units filled with reinforced concrete. The dry-stacked units made from thermal insulation are laid without mortar and filled with concrete to form a superior energy efficient structure.

The building process is quicker than traditional construction methods and will outperform the thermal performance of masonry construction. The structure can be finished internally and externally with a diverse range of architectural finishes, timber or composite cladding and render systems.

Electric vehicle points

EV (electric vehicle) charging points for commercial vehicles is becoming forever more popular, from single charging points to large multi-site installations, these are designed, install and maintain to the highest standards.

Opting for electric cars and vans can help you save your business money, reduce your carbon footprint and contribute towards the current government’s strategy to reduce emissions and green issues.

High-performance triple glazing systems

HPTG (High performance triple glazing) delivers the best possible energy efficient windows and doors for new and existing premises.

Triple glazed windows truly are the pinnacle of glazing solutions and by adding additional layers of glazing technology, this will increase the performance, reduce heat loss, energy costs and ultimately lower your CO₂ emissions.
